Venice: Shopping Question
I'll be in Venice for one day on a cruise later this month and one of my goals is to buy the great bath product that I bought last time I was there (I'm also going to I frari church and will wander the back lanes of Cannaregio and Dorsoduro). I bought this about 5 years ago based on Fodor's forum recommendations but wanted to check w/everyone here who can tell me if still exists and what stores carry it! The product is a shower wash/cream called "Tesori d'Oriente Aegyptus". My recollection is that Tesori had a huge line of products and scents (the one the Fodorites raved about was ginger but I could never find that). I think I bought the tube I'm currently using in Florence in a Coin store, but not sure.
Anyone know if Tesori products still exist and what stores sell them?
Thanks for any assistance.

The Coin Department Store is located on the Strada Nova in Venice, between Ca' d'Oro and the Rialto.
Farmaceutica Santa Maria Novella is located near Palazzo Grassi/San Samuele Traghetto.
I found the most absolutely magnificent fragrance/ bath shop in Venice.
It is located somewhere between Campo Santa Maria Formosa and SS Giovanni e Paolo.
I don't know the name of the shop, nor the exact location but they did sell the Tessori line.

I never thought of Amazon! But, part of the fun for me is exploring supermarkets, pharmacies and the more local stores so I think I'll visit the Coin store plus the shop Thin suggests - it'll be a "goal" for my wandering. Thanks all!

Coin isn't on the Strada Nova (unless they managed to move in the last eight weeks...) its on San Giovanni Grisostomo (the thoroughfare between the Rialto bridge and Strada Nova.)
There is however a store between Strada Nova and Ca d'Oro that sells all manner of soaps, shampoos, lotions.. maybe this is an outpost of Coin - I can't remember the name. It is on the left hand side of Strada Nova as you walk towards Ca d'Oro. It is a more utilitarian shop than an elegant one but they have a lot of stuff!

Ah, a utilitarian shop might be just the spot for this! My understanding is that Tesori is not a "fancy" product so I'll check out that store plus the Coin. (Since I'll be arriving on a cruise ship, I think I'll be starting from that general area anyway.) Great info - thanks.

no, it's just a midlevel line and is one brand owned by the Conter conglomerate (beauty and cleanign products). They export to many countries, but not the US

The ginger fragrance is part of their Marrakeech line.

I just got back from my trip and wanted to report back on this question! Rialtogrl provided a great tip about a store between Strada Nova and Ca d'Oro that sells tons of soaps, shampoos, lotions. It is called Tigota, Strada Nova 4273 and is on the left hand side of Strada Nova as you walk towards Ca d'Oro. As she said said, it's not fancy but has a lot of items; the first floor is household items and the beauty, shampoos, gels, etc are on the second floor. They had numerous Tesori products and I happily bought 4 items (the shower wash was 2.65 euros each). Coin no longer carries Tesori (think it must be too "common" for them).
Once again, Fodorites save the day with useful, real-time information!

Thank you for reporting back! In reading my post above I see I screwed it up a little, the shop is on Strada Nova between Campo SS Apostoli and Ca D'Oro, not "between Strada Nova and Ca d'Oro." Duh! Anyway you found it and thanks for the name and address.

Rialtogrl - since you were so helpful with my initial question, I hope you can help on this! (or anyone else, of course)
About 8 years ago I spent a week in Venice and bought a number of glass necklaces at a small shop right next to the Rialto Bridge; for some reason, I think it was called Rialto 79 or something like that. They made two pairs of custom earrings for me using colors and bead shapes I picked out, as well as a necklace, and I believe their glass was genuinely Venetian. At some point they closed. When I was in Venice a few weeks ago, every shop sold "venetian" glass jewelry but I'm skeptical and bet most of it is not from Venice or Italy at all. Do you know of any shops that have the real thing, not made in China?
Thanks!

I will answer briefly, since on one else has. Your assumption that most of the glass on sale is fake is wrong - anywhere that advertises the glass as from Murano and is not really cheap is likely to be fine - other traders would not tolerate false claims as there is so much competition. There is the traditional style, like Antica Murina, and more modern designed jewelry like the Sent sisters and Cesare Sent and Davide Penso.

It's been estimated that 70% of the glass sold in Venice doesn't come from Murano. The Italian Financial Police seized more than 11 million pieces of imitation Murano glass in 2010. From the article:

vickiebypass I am so sorry, I did not see your query until now. There are shops here and there that sell glass with the sticker Jean has pointed out, and some shops that you can see are actually making glass inside. (In Venice, so this would not really be Murano glass.) When you go back, if you want to shop for Murano glass, do a specific post here.
