Venice: Rolling Venice/IMOB and cell phone

First of all--hello! I've been lurking on these forums for a while as I prepare for my upcoming trip to Italy. Quick trip summary: I leave in 2 weeks, and I'll be there for a month (2 weeks in Venice and 2 weeks in Rome, with short trips to Milan and Florence thrown in for good measure). I'll be doing preliminary research for my dissertation, so this is more of a working trip than a true vacation. I'm pretty familiar with Rome, having spent a semester abroad there (albeit 7 years ago), but I've never been to Venice and I have a few questions that I'm hoping you can help with.

My first question has to do with public transit: I'm trying to determine the advantages/disadvantages of buying the "rolling Venice" guidebook (which seemingly allows you to purchase the 72-hour pass for 18E instead of 35E) versus the IMOB card. As I understand it, the IMOB card would entail a 40E upfront cost, but would be valid for 3 years and would allow me to purchase vaporetto tickets at a significantly reduced rate (I read 10 tickets for 11E somewhere). Has anyone utilized either of these recently? Have the prices changed? Obviously I'll have to crunch the numbers myself in order to determine what will be the most cost-effective, but I'd be interested to hear others' experiences. I plan to walk whenever I can, but I will be visiting the Cini Foundation on San Giorgio Maggiore, so I'll definitely need the vaporetto for that--and depending on how useful it is, I may be going back several times. (I should also mention that I am under 29, so I fall into the Rolling Venice age range.)

Second question: Does anyone have a recommendation about where I can buy a cell phone in Venice? I understand that there isn't a place to do this at the airport, but I would like to do this shortly after I arrive, so if anyone can recommend the location of a TIM store (or something comparable), I would appreciate it.
