Venice in four hours, parking and food

If I am driving in from Milan. Where do I park and how do I get into town? Is it clear? I just want to spend a few hours taking in a few sights and a relaxed lunch. Say I spend four hours there, where would you go and where would you dine?

I am almost embarrassed to say that I know from experience that you can do it... and it will not be difficult (except to tear yourself away). I have been to Venice six times, and one of those was a four hour lunch stop (en route from Salzburg to further south in Italy).

Just follow all the signs to Venice, and they will take you as far as a car can go - - Piazzale Roma, where there is a parking garage. Take a private water taxi (expensive) or vaporetto to (near) Piazza San Marco... and do thr wander back to the Rialto Bridge area. You can find any number of canalside lunch choices there; better dining might not be canalside, but not necesarily equal ambience. You can walk or boat back to Piazzale Roma.

It's a terribly superficial glimpse of Venice, but it will set the hook to gt you back there.

Best wishes,

Rex

it is quite easy...just follow the signs to venice and then you will see signs for the parking garages....you pull into one and there are quite a few and then you take a boat from there into the center....

i personally prefer the dorsoduro area but probably you want to be around st marks....

get a guide book on venice and read up on it....

in four hours you will not be able to do much....lunch will be way over prices so plan on some pizza instead or eat in a bar, which will be good and cheaper...

Given what we know from another post of julzieluv's tastes, I would suggest the water taxi and lunch a) on the terrace of the Monaco & Grand Canal Hotel; b) on the terrace of the Gritti Palace Hotel (both overlooking the Grand Canal) or c) at the Terrace of the Hotel Cipriani on Giudecca. The view from the dining room of Harry's Bar is not bad either, but there is no terrace. I'm not acquainted with the Hotel Danieli's dining facilities, but I believe there is a dining room on the top floor with windows onto the lagoon.

www.mappy.com is good for locating parking in Italy. Use the map section and enter your city. After the map loads, click on car parks under practical info. A list of parking lots will appear below the map with clickable links. Most will have hours and directions.
