My husband and I are driving with friends from Florence to Venice, where they will be dropping us off. Any suggestions as to where would be the most convenient place for them to drop us off? We are staying at the Metropole. Would it be the airport or are there better options?

Have them drop you off at Piazzale Roma and then take a vaparetto or a water taxi to your hotel.
The airport will be too far and more expensive
g is right...you can drive across the bridge and they can drop you right there at the vaporatto stop in what is primarily a giant parking lot/garage. You will get quite a tour on the way to the hotel! Can't recall the name of your stop right now--just past San Marco--but you will then walk a couple of "blocks" along the waterfront to your hotel. I love the Metropole and look forward to visiting there again myself in the spring!
Thank you for your advice. We leave in two days--I can hardly wait!
The vaporetto stop is San Zaccaria. It will be about a 2 or 3 block walk along the Riva Schiavoni to the Metropole. If you decide to take your own private water taxi the hotel has a dock that is next to its lobby. It cost us about $75.00 to do this, but the experience was priceless.
We stayed at the Metropole just a few weeks ago. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
As we had several bags, and a 1 year old in tow, we decided to take a water taxi from the Piazzale Roma. The cost of the taxi was 60 Euros.
