venice carnivale

I need recommendation on what to do in Venice during carnival I have been to Venice few times, but never for the carnival. Did anybody attend any of the costume balls? Are they worth it? Should we go to more than one? Or are they pretty much the same. We will be there for the last three days of the carnival. Thanks
