Venice and the Brenta Canal.

We’re visiting Venice in November, and I’d like to see the Palladian villas on the Brenta canal, travelling by ferry from Venice to the Brenta.

Has anyone done such a trip – it would just be a day trip. Information on this would be most welcomed.

Thanks

We took the Brenta canal boat trip from Venice but only did it half-way. The only Palladian villa on the trip is La Malcontenta so we decided to get off at the lunch stop following our time at that villa. The trip was very nice and La Malcontenta a treasure. We took a buss back to Venice; it stopped right in front of the restaurant where the boat docked. If you spend the whole day on the boat, you'll see more villas and end in Padua.I wonder if these baots are running in November; we went in May.

Thanks for that info - I might end up in Padua and take the train back to Venice.

We took the Brenta canal boat trip from Venice to Padua in 2006. We were a little disappointed in the trip overall. The 3 Villas we saw were interesting, particularly the Villa Pisani, near the end of the trip. But we felt the scenery along the way was ho-hum. Maybe we were expecting too much.
We came back by bus.

jrjcolllins is right - the Brenta Canal is not scenic. But there are some shiny mansions along the canal. Some can be visited from the inside. We drove along the canal with our car, so we had a lot of freedom to stop and visit whereever we wanted. Actually, we spend about two hours along the Brenta Canal before we had our timed tickets for the Cappella degli Scrovegni. Make sure to get advance tickets for the Cappella, either on the web or with the help of the hotel concierge.

In any case, if you are travelling in November, check out what is open. The villas may be closed.
