I have finally decided to spend a full 7-nights in Venice, and only 1-night in Florence since I've been there before - and need to get to Sinalunga on Sept 9th + Florence is a train stop on the way.
I could use your help coming up with a place to stay in Venice that is located centrally, so that it's not a excursion to get to the sites, or go out again at night to a cafe or square since I'm traveling alone.
This is a beautiful city I've been waiting decades to visits - so I don't want to find myself in a seedy room that could have been avoided if I did a little research.
My budget is around $100 a night - and hoping if the rate is more they will offer a weekly rate, and have single rooms that aren't depressing.
Would greatly appreciate your recommendations.
Found some place that seem too good to be true on airbnb - but they all say they are central, but none of them give the exact address.
The maps of Venice are confusing - can't figure out if it's good to be on the island or mainland, which is the central Duomo area.
You haven't steered me wrong yet.Got a great recommendation from someone for Tourist House Ghiberti in Florence -Venice is my focus since it the city I'll be landing in and first place I stay.

In March we stayed at the Hotel Campiello for about 100 euros a night. It is a small hotel located on Calle del Vin, an alleyway located two bridges east of Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square) and about 100 feet from the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop. This location was both central and very quiet (except when the garbage boats came through the neighborhood in the morning
It's going to be difficult to find something in that price range.
That being said, you should be able to find something.
Go to www.venere.com as they have over 100 listings in that price range, depending on your exact dates. Venere has reviews of the places by folks who have stayed there before.
Always check directly with the hotel to see is they can provide a better rate, or accomodate a week.

I'm not sure what you mean. There is, to my knowledge, no church in Venice callled the Duomo, unless you mean Basilica San Marco, which is in the sestiere of San Marco, on the Piazza of the same name.
Technically all of Venice is composed of a group of small islands. There is no "mainland," unless you mean Mestre, which is on the mainland and is accessible by train, bus or car from Venice. If you can find something in Venice itself, I would definitely stay there.
I fear you are mistaken about the geography of Venice. You need to get a good map. San Marco - the Duomo, the clocl tower and the Doges Palace - are in the center of the largest island of Venice - nowhere near the mainland (which is an industrial suburb called Mestre).
Either buy or download a good quality map of Venice - and then check VERY carefully the exact location of any B&B (esp if it's air BNB, which has had numerous problems). If this is not an official B&B - you MUST do your due diligence - getting names and references from previous guests, getting the location an exact street address, locating it on google earth and making sure you have a 24 hour land line you can use in case of any problems. Also, for any place you consider staying find out the location of the nearest vaporetto stop and exactly how to get there.
For that budget, I'd consider a monastery stay. This one gets pretty good reviews. It's located in the Dorsoduro.
