Venice- 5 friends, good location, cheap apartment? possible?
Hi! I will be traveling with 4 of my best friends, all of us moms, coming up this next year, to Venice. I have been researching this site among others trying to find an apartment in a good location for a decent price. I am looking for something that sleeps 5, around 160euro or under a night as we are all on a budget. Any suggestions would be very appreciated thank you!

dhb, I have had good luck with VRBO and SleepInItaly. Also Slowtrav has apartments listed.
Start there. At VRBO, you can search from "Sleeps most to least".
Personally, I don't think there are any "bad" areas in Venice. But, you will probably find that the closer you are to St. Mark's, the more you will pay.
We stayed in a lovely apartment in Cannaregio this past April. We were in a nice quiet area and yet it was just two minutes walk the the Strada Nova (major shopping street) and we were half-way between two vaporetto stops- both about 5-7 minutes walk. Lovely.
Good luck! Buon viaggio!

The rooftop terrace would be a big seller for me. Has great reviews. You can read them at the bottom of the page.

The Ai Pugni and Ca' Zucchero apartments should be the right size. Both have recently been remodeled and have everything you need. They are located in the Dorsoduro area, one of my favorite areas to stay. Email the owner, Anna, for rates.

We have used these folks in the past:
www.veniceapartments.org
the people also get good reviews as well:
www.viewsonvenice.com
It looks like the 5 person apartment where we stayed in Dorsoduro has been pulled. Maybe for some renovation to the building.

<<I am also looking for an apartment for 5. Zoecat, can you tell me about your experience with Palazzo Foscarini apartments. They look very nice.>>
I have stayed in the Palazzo Foscarini apartemnt several times. The living room/dining room area is large with very high ceilings. The windows are also high and large. There is a small balcony which overlooks a large private garden, backyards (yes, there are some backyards in Venice!) and rooftops. There is a new flatscreen TV with more stations than you can watch. The kitchen is small but contains everything needed to cook meals. The bed is very comfortable with a nice down duvet. A/C works great and is quiet. Bathroom was recently redone and is nice. It really feels like staying in a palazzo (more than an apartment), with modern touches for comfort.
The other apartments- I have only walked through. Anna, the owner, had just remodeled them and was very happy to give me a tour. They are large and well done. Both have huge kitchens. Niether has a balcony, but they do have nice views out the windows of Venice rooftops. One has a nice private patio area downstairs. Both apartments are a few flights up.
Great locations for all apartments. Anna is wonderful to work with (she speaks excellent English) and will meet you at the apartment to do a walk through and explain everything. Her mother lives downstairs from the Palazzo Foscarini apartment and Anna lives nearby, so if you need something, they are available to quickly help. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll try to help.
<<zoecat, I don't see anything about pricing at that website. Do you have any information on how much those might average per night? thx>>
As I recall (not positive), the 1br Palazzo Foscarini apartment ran around 100-120E per night. The larger apartments were around 130-150E per night. I usually stay in Fall or Winter, so rates may be higher in the Spring/Summer months. Also, the rates may vary depending on the length of stay.

One other thing about the Palazzo Focarini apartment-
Although the apartment is just off Campo Santa Margharita, there is a 5-10 minute "shortcut" walk to P. Roma. And with the new bridge over the Grand Canal, it is only a few minutes more on foot from P. Roma to the train station. This makes getting to the airport and train station very easy and doesn't require a boat ride. There are 2-3 small bridges with steps, but if traveling light, it is not a problem. I have had a few early flights out of Venice and it was so nice to walk for 5-10 minutes and catch the 5:00am bus at P. Roma.
From the other two apartments this walk is about 5 minutes longer with only one additional small bridge.

Hi guys- thanks for all the info so far. I will email anna and inquire about the apartment, thanks for taking the time zoecat. Bob- we will be there the last week of September and I know that those 3 words (Venice-- location--cheap--!) ha ha! don't usually work together, I was just wondering if you had had any luck with a gem or two... Thanks Sarge, that apartment is nice...
