Vatican Tours
We are interested in doing a Vatican Tour in October in order to avoid crowds.
After a few internet searches, we came across to options with vastly different pricing. An outfit called DarkRome offers Friday early evening tours for about 200 US per couple. Another outfit called Viatour offers VIP tours for about 900 US per couple. We are trying to decide if paying the additional money is worth it. Has anyone been on any of these tours or any other suggestions? Any others we should look at?
Thanking you in advance.

Did you accidentally type an extra 0 in the price for the VIP tour? $900 sounds a bit exorbitant!
Viator is not a tour operator. They're a reseller of tours operated by other companies. There are many Vatican tours offered by different companies, including Dark Rome, that are described as VIP tours, so it's impossible to know what this tour consists of. It may even be a Dark Rome tour, as many of the tours sold by Viator are.
The least expensive option is to take one of the Vatican's own tours. They have Friday evening openings until the end of October, and you can either buy entry tickets and go at your own pace, or the standard Vatican Museum tour.

The Viator is the Vatican secret rooms and Sistine Chapel and is indeed $450 per person for a 3 hour tour. I think this is excessive but it depends on how much you want to see the rooms that are normally closed. There's enough art in the Vatican Museums and you'll see wonderful things on a regular tour or on your own.
I've done tours with Context and Enjoy Rome and thought they were both good. The Context guide was suburb but she may not work for Context now.
I like taking guided tour as I get more out of it than reading on my own.
