Our first trip to Italy (four of us.) Is it best to buy tickets on-line € 15,00 or get the Vatican tour at € 31,00 apiece? My traveling companions would rather go the non-tour route, but are afraid there will be too many lines at the middle of October. Any personal experience? Thanks.

The line moved quite fast as we started down the street at the corner and were in line about 30-45 min. However, our self guided tour left something to be desired. I'm sure we missed alot of explanations and we would have preferred the tour (our friends objected). Can't speak to the worth of the guided tour but I wish we would have paid the extra money.
You don't have to wait in line if you buy tickets from the Vatican. It doesn't matter if it's entry only or a tour. You just go to the entry and show your reservation. They will direct you on in to security. If you don't want a tour, you can rent the audio guides.
