VARENNA TO BELLAGIO

Know I can get from Milan to Varenna by train. Then ferry to Bellagio. Question is how far is the train station from the ferry dock in Varenna ?? Walkable or need taxi ??

Also does anyone know a link for Lake Como ferry schedules ??

Thanks !!

The ferry dock is a 7 to 10 minute walk down hill. You'd be lucky to find a taxi there.

If you're returning by train from Varenna buy a round trip ticket as there is no ticket office in Varenna.

You can also take the Nord de Milano (sp?) train line from Milan to a terminus station in Como right opposite the boat docks with frequent boats - ferries and taxi boats to Bellagio from here or even go by boat from a bus station right opposite also the Como Nord train station.

You can find out this kind of thing using the Google map. 550m, 7min. There are Google street view images as well. It is a steep hill down to the dock, so it takes more time going back to the station. Pretty much most people off the train are doing the same thing. I have seen one taxi going back and forth between the station, the dock, and the Varenna hotels. If you want to minimize walking after getting off the train, hop on the second car from tail (closer to the end of the track) at Milano Centrale. It stops approximately at the paved walkway at Varenna-Esino station. Folks who got on at the head of the train will have to back track to the tail of the train on a very narrow platform.

the bus from Como Nord is a lot cheaper than ferries I believe and may be the quickest route.

Better cheaper quicker to train Milano Centrale to Como then

fast ferry to bellagio.info.

Varenna u have to go all the way to the OTHER side of the lake

via Bergamo Lecco much longer slog plus a long downhill bag

drag from the remote train station to the ferry for Bellagio

no taxis at all when I was there last more hassle for me.

Have fun either way...

we are driving to Bellagio from venice...from what I've read, it looks as though we ought to park in Varenna and take the ferry to Bellagio. For those of you who have been there with a car - would you recommend this?
