Validating of Train Tickets in Austria and Czech Republic
Hi,
We are planning to take some trains in Austria to travel between cities and also to use the Einfach Raus Ticket. Are also planning to do some day trips from Prague by using the local trains. Do we need to validate the tickets for both countries before embarking the train? I know failure to do so in certain European countries like Italy and France will incur a steep fine. Am I correct for Germany, I do not need to do so?
thank you.

I never saw a machine to validate tickets in the Czech Republic but I had a date and timed ticket so no need to validate those.
In France and Italy you only need to validate tickets that do not specify date and time as they could be reused if not validated.
In Germany I never saw a validation machine (I think it's time stamped when you buy the tickets). I was checked by an inspector and she looked at my ticket and said nothing. I really don't understand the German tickets; I just buy what I need.

Generally the rule, if there even IS a validation possibility, has been:
any ticket that does not list a specific date/time/ and sometimes train number (IOW one of those "open" tickets that can be used any time within a certain broad timeframe, say 1-2 months) has to be validated and that used to start another "timeframe" for use (as in so many hours).
That Einfach ticket in Austria is usually restricted to certain times of day (as in at 0900 or thereafter as I recall) and you'll be reminded of that on the website when you attempt to buy it.
