My daughter and her friend were travelling in Barcelona and the friend had her passport and things stolen. They now have to travel by train to Madrid to the Australian Embassy. As money is now an issue for them I want to book something for them, near the Embassy, while they wait for the new passport. I have the address of the Embassy as : Torre Espacio, Paseo de la Castellana but I do not know which part of the city this is. I would really appreciate some help. Thank you.
urgently need cheap, decent accommodation near Australian Embassy in Madrid

The Australian Embassy is near the Chamartin Train Station. Go to Google Maps, type in "Australian Embassy Madrid" and when the map comes up click on the "Search Nearby" link under the address (on the left side). Type "hotels" in the search box and then adjust the map size - hotels will be shown on the map. There are a couple of expensive ones nearby you probably wouldn't want, but the Tryp Centro Norte comes up about 500 meters south of the embassy. TRYP is a reliable moderate Spanish chain, part of Melia. It might be more than you want to spend, there is also HUSA hotel "Chamartin", right at the train station which looks to be a fair bit cheaper

I would nevertheless recommend to stay in the centre of town, not much going on close to the embassy, just office and apartment buildings. The no 13 metro takes you from the heart of the city Puerta del Sol to Chamartín, where the embassy is, in little more than 20 minutes. La Perla Asturiana is a basic and very affordable option with all amenities in the centre of it all: http://www.booking.com/hotel/es/la-perla-asturiana.en.html?aid=311984;label=la-perla-asturiana-6L9QI0ka2v8zyKA1y_uQ3gS3194884603:pl:ta:p1:p2:ac:ap1t1:neg;ws=&gclid=CL7L9Jqb_rMCFaSXcAodBjUA_g

I agree with Kimhe as to the location of a hotel. On my last trip I stayed at the Hotel Europa, which cost about $100 per night. It was clean, modern and comfortable. It was quite near the Porta del Sol.
