Urgent seasonal question re France/Italy

Jump to last reply

Hoping someone can help. I have only hours to confirm or change my flight details for Europe later this year. We fly to Paris in August and will be touring France by car, ending up in the south-east corner of France. We have choices of departure points for our return trip home: Nice, Geneva or Milan. Nice is easiest, but we've travelled there before. Milan attracts us because of the chance to spend a few days nearby in Stresa or Orta before returning home. Or similarly, Annecy looks like an attractive town to stay a few days in if we were to depart from Geneva.

The problem is the timing. It will be the very end of October (about the 26th) by the time we hit either Stresa or Annecy. We're prepared for cooler temperatures then, but what about seasonal opening times for the various attractions? Isola Bella near Stresa, for example, and I think a similar island off Orta - might excursions to these places be actually closed by late October? Might even some Stresa/Orta hotels close this late in the season?

We would be grateful for any advice on what might be our wisest choice. Although we already know Nice, there are places in the area (Grasse, Vence etc) which we haven't visited before, but which might be a better option perhaps if the consensus is that it's too late in the season to get the best out of Stresa or Annecy? Many thanks in advance...
