URGENT -Luggage Storage in Heraklion - Crete - Greece
Hi All,
I leave tomorrow for a 3 week wedding/honeymoon trip. At one point during my trip I am traveling to Heraklion via overnight ferry from Pireaus.
I arrive in Heraklion at 6:00am. My plan was to tour Heraklion during the day before I rent a car and head to Chania where I am staying for 3 nights.
I really have a two part question
(1) Is there a place that I can store my luggage for a 1/2 day while I tour Heraklion, if so where is it, what is the name of the place.
(2)This question is nearly as important to me than the first, BUT most stuff doesn't open until 8 or 9 am and all "attractions" will be closed at 6:00am. Does anyone have any clever ideas of how I can fill 2 or 3 hours until things open up - Breakfast place, park to relax, any nice walks, etc.
Thank You and Happy Travels,

The bus station is close to the port and has a left luggage office (or, at least, it did when I was last there).
The overnight ferries usually stay in port all day and leave again for Pireas in the evening, so there is no rush to disembark immediately. You can usually stay on board a little while and have a coffee. Ask onboard to find out what time you need to leave.

As Geoff says, don't rush to get off the ferry if you don't have to. If you do have to disembark immediately there should be a kafenion or 2 open near the port for a coffee, then why not get your hire car as soon as any are open? As long as it has enough room for you to put your luggage out of sight you could leave it there while you explore & drive off whenever you are ready. Easier than storing it, then retrieving it, then getting a hire car!

We did it the way yiassas suggests. The only downside is that we had to go up several classes of rental car to get one with a decent sized trunk. We rented from Anna Cars and my sense was they were a few euros more than the absolute cheapest quote I got but they were definitely the easiest car company to deal with (both in getting quotes and for the actual rental), so I was happy we went with them.
