This worked for me back in 2000, and I hope it will again. I was at the market in Florence last week, and there was a man making bent wire necklaces. I bought for all of my nieces, and he made me a very good price. They are adorable, and I will keep them for Christmas presents. Unfortunately, I forgot one. I have looked online, and they are just so much more expensive here. Would anyone be willing to pick one up for me? I will be glad to send the money ahead of time, and I can tell you exactly where he is!
Unusual request for anyone going to Florence soon

I will probably be in Florence in September, but my plans aren't set yet. I bought some train tickets for a Fodorite when I was in Italy a few years ago and mailed them to him when I got home. He mailed me a check.
I'm sure your nieces will love them. I have a sterling wire type bracelet with a cherub that my aunt had made for me in Florence in the late 50's. It's a copy of the cherub on this fountain by Verrocchio in the courtyard of Palazzo Vecchio. You can't tell from the picture, but the cherub is holding a dolphin.

I hope to get a reply sooner, but, if not, I will be in touch!! These necklaces, of course, are just made of wire, but my nieces are very young, and I think they will love them. I saw them being made in Greece and bought my older niece one a few years ago. I am sorry I didn't buy myself one. Yours is lovely!
I'm in Florence now and had forgotten about this until I saw some of them today. Don't know if you will see this and I will only be here one more day. If you post back with the name before I leave I'll see if I can pick one up. The ones I saw bt ponte vecchio had some ribbon or leather for the part around the neck but I didn't look close or check to see how much.
If you miss Kyb I will be in Florence at the end of September.
Sorry I can't help you with the necklaces, but does anybody have any good hotel suggestions in Florence ?
Prefer central location & not too expensive. Thanks
Oh, Kyb and GoSox, I am so sorry I did come back to check again. I finally found one online here, but it is not quite as cute. Thanks for thinking about it. I am going to be in Venice in January; let me know if I can help either of you!!!!
deedeedee, when are you going and how much is "not too expensive"? Have you done a search for "Florence hotels"? Are you considering any particular hotels?
deedeedee, we were recently very pleased with the Hotel La Residenza (where I'd previously stayed in 1992 !). Very good, central location and very reasonably priced. I asked for one of the rooms with Florentine furniture and cotto floors and it was very nice.
