United on strike on 2/20-are you still gonna travel?
Our family is supposed to be leaving on a trip tomorrow and coming back on Weds.(2/20) the day United is supposed to strike. We are on a standby ticket on another airline for the return on Weds. and now my husband says that he does not want to do the trip.He says that congress has never stepped in before and Bush has already had his one time to delay. Anybody else having second thoughts?Would you still try and go?

I'm haven't heard much about the strike, but all I can add is that I received an email from United yesterday that stated both sides are going back to the table and continuing talks with a expected voted again in mid March. I don't know the exact web address, but go to Uniteds web site and you should be able to find informatio about this.

So, if you don't go, how much will you be out of pocket? It has to be at least $100 per ticket and at least one night's lodging. If United is flying tomorrow, and you cancel and then rebook, you've got to pay the penalty -- United isn't going to give you a full refund unless you have unrestricted tickets. Chances are that United is not going to strike, and if they do, it will probably only be for a day or so. So what is the downside -- you check to see if another airline will reaccommodate you and accept your ticket without any additional fees if you get stuck, or you have to extend your vacation for a few days. Go on vacation and have a good time and worry about the strike if and when it happens.
