UK Visa Help

I am a British Citizen married to an US Citizen. We are planning to visit the UK August 2017 to sell my house. After the 90 day visa is up how long will my spousr need to remain out of the UK before they can return there?

Welcome again

As I mentioned on your other thread, you do realize that US citizens can stay up to 6 months w/ just their passport? Do you expect it to take more than 6 months?

Thank you. We are hoping to sell the house within 6 months but if we do not then my question is the same. How long?

You don't have to be in the UK to sell your house; come to the UK, list it with an estate agent and come back only when it is sold and you need to complete the paperwork. Conveyancing can take months to complete and depending where you are, it can take months to get an offer.

Each time your husband wishes to enter the UK he MAY be given permission to stay for UP TO 6 months. There is no fixed length of time he needs to remain outside the UK.

But remember that 6 months is not guaranteed he may only be given a week - the decision will be made by the UK border staff at the time.

Absolutely. Plus, as Odin says, there is really no reason either one of you need to stay in the UK for extended periods of time to sell a house.

Further to the above, you need to consider tax status both in the UK and the US. Returning to the UK for more than 90 days may affect your liability for capital gains tax in the UK. I'm certainly no expert on the subject, but a Google search found this interesting article:
