Yes, taxi drivers staged a nation-wide strike against Uber today!

In Barcelona, the cabs weren't that expensive. Dunno where you're off to.

I just took taxis. They were clean and relatively cheap.

Ditto to taxis. We used them in northern Spain a few weeks ago. I thought Uber didn't operate in Spain, but maybe. In any case, use the taxis.

BigRuss is right, the cabs in Barcelona are not that expensive, they were the same price as Uber. Having said that I took Uber last year from the airport, and a couple of times within the city as well because I was not sure my credit card would work in the cabs - I had not notified my bank and I carry next to no cash.

Apps are illegal in most areas and the taxis are on strike during over the past few days.

There a load of licensed taxis on the street (when they are not on strike) just use one of them

At the end of this video you will see teh resutls of App cars having been set on fire during the Feria de Abril. http://www.rtve.es/alacarta/videos/p...49262/4041354/

Madrid has in excess of 15.000 taxis, making it difficult not to fine one (except NY Eve). With the set fee between the airport and the city (30€), there is no reason not to consider using a taxi. Our average fare when running around in Madrid has been less then €10 the last few years.

The same can't be said in most parts of good old Trumpland, which is why we use Uber or Lift as needed. The most expensive Uber ride we had in LA a few months ago was a little over $11 from the hotel to LAX. A taxi would have been well over $25 for the mileage and distance.

Thanks Robert for that quick explanation. I have always found it hard to understand why there is a need to use taxi apps this side of the water.

There are a couple of taxi apps that are useful (Hailo and MyTaxi), especially in Barcelona when you're in Barceloneta for lunch on a hot day and trying to find a taxi.

Taxis in Spain (at least in Barcelona and Madrid) were quite inexpensive when we visited a few years ago.
