Two Questions for Venice Experts

Two quick questions:
1. The apartment manager in Venice has told us to take Vaporetto Line 2 from P. Roma to San Basilio. But when I put in info on ACTV site it told me to take Line 6 (a 10 min trip vs. 20 min. on Line 2). I feel I should trust the apartment mgr. but I would prefer to get there the quickest and easiest way possible. Anyone know the route and have some advice? (We will be arriving mid-day on a Wednesday)
2. I have read conflicting reports on this - can you buy a 7-day vaporetto pass at Marco Polo airport and use it to also cover cost of the ATVO bus to P.Roma?
Thanks.

I'm taking a stab at this and might be (probably am)wrong, but sometimes there are stops on both sides of a major canal. Could it be that he suggest Line 2 because it stops on the side where the apartment is?

Can you ask the landlord this question?

We once had a pass that included bus fare to P.Roma, but I can't remember the details.

If you look at the map, line 6 follow a shorter route than line 2. Ask the apartment owner again, Here's a map you can look at.

<< but sometimes there are stops on both sides of a major canal >>

The boats do stop on both sides of the grand canal but there are different names for stops on each side of the canal; not the same name on each side. If you look at the map, San Basilio stops in Venice proper and the other side of the canal is Guidecca and has stops with different names. If you want to stop in Guidecca you would get off at Molino Stucky rather than San Basilio. Venice is confusing but not so confusing that there are stops on different sides of the canal with the same name.

Thank you both for your assistance. Like adrienne it seems straightforward to me that line 6 is the better route. I only hesitated in asking the apartment manager again because I already asked twice and can imagine him thinking - what is this idiot that thinks they know more than me and they don't even live here! I think we will go with line 6 and if we get lost, it will be another story to tell when we get back.

Does anyone know if you can purchase the 7-day vaporetto pass at the airport, and if the bus trip from the airport to P. Roma is included? Thanks.

We used this website to purchase tickets for my parents last year. They printed the voucher and collected at the train station, but I am sure they have a collection point at the airport.

I just picked a day in April and you can see the difference options and what they include. You can add on the airport bus. http://www.veniceconnected.com/ecomm...g=2&g=20130405

Why don't you ask at the ticket booth where you board the vaporetto. Write the vaporetto stop on a piece of paper and ask which line.

I agree that if you've asked the apartment owners twice then you should not ask again. I'd be interested in knowing why they chose one line over another.

Thanks adrienne. I'll let you know how lost we got when we return - if we return!

There are two bus options from Marco Polo Airport to Piazzale Roma in Venice:
- ACTV (the local public transport company the runs the land and water (vaporetto) bus system)
- ATVO ( a private company that runs certain bus routes)

The ACTV 7-day pass (nor any other pass) automatically includes the bus from the airport. (The route was included years ago, but discontinued in 2011.)

When you purchase a pass you can opt to include the airport bus fee. It will be for the ACTV bus, which is a local bus that makes stops along the way to Venice, taking 20-25 minutes from airport to Piazzale Roma.

To ride the ATVO bus, you must purchase a separate ticket. This bus travels nonstop between airport and Piazzale Roma.

rickmav - it's difficult to think of any reason why you should use the no 2 rather than the no 6, but really the only answer is to ask the apartment manager.

what have you got to lose from a one line e-mail - "any reason why I shouldn't use line no 6 instead of no 2?"

OTOH if you're staying long enough to be staying in an apartment, does that extra 10 mins REALLY matter?

OOPS I mistyped

The ACTV 7-day pass DOES NOT (nor does any other pass) automatically include the bus from the airport. (The route was included years ago, but discontinued in 2011.)

Regarding the best line, can you share the location of the actual apartment? It might be that to come from one direction, there are more bridges to cross, which might be problematic with luggage.
