Two days around Oban - help with itinerary
After much deliberation, we are closing in on an itinerary for a week in Scotland for my daughter's honeymoon. They didn't want to drive, but now are considering taking a car for 2 days to go around the countryside near Oban. Interested in amazing scenery, small towns, getting the feel of Scotland, a bit of history, and some whiskey. My daughter is a photographer.
This is the plan so far:
9-11 July - Edinburgh
11 July - morning train to Oban. Pick up car for 2 days.
11-13 July - two day route around Oban. Need suggestions here.
13 July drop off car in Oban. Two nights accommodation in Oban
14 July - tour of three islands (Staffa tours)
15 July - am Oban then train back to Edinburgh
16 July - early flight
Have booked accommodation for Edinburgh and Oban. Not for the 2 day car trip - so suggestions are welcome here too. Interested in small, typical b&bs, not regular hotels.
Thanks to all those who helped in other posts. Interested in your thoughts here.

With a doubt, take the ferry to Mull and drive around the island.
You'll be able to make it down to Iona, over the pass to Loch Na Keal and up to Tobermory.
There is some of the most developed wildlife environment in the UK on the island and the best sea life in the UK together with stunning landscapes.
I'm not experienced at staying in B&Bs but if you book early there are options on Iona.

Another vote for Mull! Tobermory is an unforgettable little place with a few great restaurants and several reasonable hotels. Last time we were there we stayed at the Tobermory Hotel-small rooms but lovely.
We ate at the Mishnish and had excellent seafood and at the pub near the Visitor Centre on the Quayside. Visited the distillery just off the quay.
Apart from Tobermory, BC has it right above.

I'm not sure of the age or mobility of your daughter but Oban offers the chance to encounter one of the natural world's great wonders.
Based in Oban is a environmentally aware company who offer snorkelling trips with Basking Sharks usually off off Coll and Tiree. There aren't many place in the world you can do this and the local population has blossomed following its protection.
A mature shark can reach up to 30ft in length, they are a truly magical sight (no teeth by the way).
Another option for the two day trip is the ferry to Coll/Tiree which are the outer most Hebridean islands. They are wild and have some of the most spectacular beaches in the world. The colours (but not the weather) match those in The Bahamas chain.

That would be <strike>whiskey</strike> whisky
I would 100% stay the two nights/days ON Mull.
I would not take trains between Edinburgh and Oban - it is nearly 4.5 hours and requires a change in Glasgow. I'd drive and explore along the way. What is the 'tour of 3 islands'?

A few options for Oban area would be Dunstastaffnage Castle just down the road, Dunollie Castle ( a ruined castle just north of the town ) and a bit further south of Oban is Kilmartin Glen an exceptional prehistoric site.

<<We don't sell whiskey in Scotland.>>
Huh? Of course they sell whiskey in Scotland, but none of it is produced domestically (unless you count Welsh whiskey or Bushmills as domestic because it's made in the UK).
