Two airline trip

Hi,
I bought my ticket to Ireland through Continental although the transatlantic part will be on Aer Lingus. Does anybody know whether or not when I check in with Continental in Texas, they'll be able to check me all the way through and give me Aer Lingus boarding passes? I called Continental and all they could tell me is that my bags could be checked all the way through but they didn't know whether or not I the passenger can be checked all the way through. Any information would be most appreciated!!

It sounds like you have one ticket. You will be checked in all the way through. However, I would assume that your passport may be checked again when you board AerLingus and they may ask you security questions.

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to you question but I think it would help if you told us where you will be changing planes (maybe someone will know that airport) & what concerns, if any, you have. BTW, if it were me & I had bought the ticket from CO, I would have asked to speak to a supervisor when thy couldn't answer your question. You should have a reserved seat(s) for the Aer Lingus segment. If you don't, get one & have it on a confirmation you can print off the computer. If Continental can't help you, maybe Aer Lingus can.

We're flying AA out of Newark, connecting to Aer Lingus (code share with AA) to Shannon. AA told me that my international check-in would be at Newark and since they code share, I would get all my boarding passes at that time, in Newark, and my luggage would be checked all the way to Shannon.

Call Continental -- they will tell you their procedures in Texas. It may be different, but I doubt it. AA told me they were enforcing the 2-hour check in at Newark.

When are you going? We're leaving on the 21st.

If you are flying on a Continental aircraft from Houston (?) to Newark(?) and connecting there to the Aer Lingus flight you would check in at the Continental desk in Texas. You check in with the airline that is actually operating any particular segment.

Hi again,
I'm flying Houston -Bush Airport to BWI to SNN. I have my seat assignments set with Continental and I took care of my seats separately with Aer Lingus since Continental is not a partner with Aer Lingus. They just sold me the complete ticket deal. My tickets seem to be separate for each leg of the trip. If I'm checked in all the way, then I won't have to worry about Aer Lingus bumping me. I asked if there was someone else who could answer my question, but the CO rep said that I would only be able to find out when I got to the counter at the airport.

Seeing that the two are not code share, your international check in would be directly with Aer Lingus at BWI. Your luggage will be routed direct to Shannon from Bush.

Since you already have your seat assignment, you would just need to pick up your boarding passes at BWI for that leg of the flight because you have to do the "International" check in thingy.

What's your connection time? I would feel comfortable with 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

In situation like this, CO usually can't check you in for the BWI-SNN leg. They can check your luggage through, so you don't need to worry about that.

At BWI, you can just go straight to the EI departing gate, and they can issue the boarding pass for you there. You shouldn't have to go through security, and shouldn't have to go to the main check-in counters. Terminals D (Continental) and E (Aer Lingus) are connected.

Nobody will bump you unless the flight is overbooked, and they will offer compensation to passengers being bumped.

CO's flight from Houston should arrive at 5:43pm, and EI 118 leaves at 8:10pm. Plenty of time.
