Tuscany Region - Rental Car or Public Transportation?
Hi,
Planning a trip to Italy next year in April and wanted to find out if there was public transportation that you could utilize to get around Tuscany or would it be more beneficial to rent a car?
Thanks!

A generalized view:
There are places in Tuscany that have pretty good train connections. Florence-Pistoia-Montecatini Terme-Lucca are on the same train line. Pisa can be reached easily by public transportation from Florence or Lucca. Bus connections work for Florence to San Gimignano and Siena.
For other areas (Chianti or Val D'Orcia) public transit is not as convenient--local buses don't always operate at convenient times for tourists. Cars are a better option here.
(Personally, I am not as familiar with Maremma and transit there. Tuscany covers a big area. As you can see, the answer will depend on your destination choice.)
