Tuscany hotel help (3 nights)
Here are the 3 hotels I've found so far after much searching on fodors, tripadvisor and a site called venere. We're not looking to spend more than ~350 euros per night as I'm finding hotels/b&b's ~200 euros per night to be either on the dingier side or in fairly isolated locations. Will have a car. First week of September. Any other recommendations in this price range?

Hotelito Lupaia www.lupaia.com (10km north of Montepulciano)
Relais La Saracina www.lasaracina.it/ (3km northeast of Pienza)

We are staying at Locanda San Francesco in Montepulciano in early August. I can't speak from personal experience, since we haven't had our trip yet, but is in your price range, and has good reviews, both here and on trip advisor. It also has a/c, which was important to us, given we are going to be there in the heat of the summer. www.locandasanfrancesco.it
We also looked at Palazzo del Capitano in San Quirico d'Orcia, which gets great reviews on this site.
Good luck!

The first two are seem to be pretty isolated. While 14km may not sound like much, when you are on curvy gravel roads it takes longer than you might think to get places. I prefer somewhere with easier access to towns for dinner.

We stayed inside the walls at Hotel Duomo.
The location was perfect for walking everywhere we needed to go. It has very mixed reviews on Trip Advisor. We found for the price it was perfect for us.
It is no luxury hotel, but clean, very simple furnishings,
average breakfast, friendly and helpful staff. Our room did
have a nice view of the Duomo.

We are staying in room #4. 210E per night. If you send them an email, they will send you some pictures. They responded very quickly to my inquiry. I think they're a bit more illustrative than what's on the website. Or give me your email, and I will forward them to you.

I will forward the email your way. It has all the prices they quoted me, as well. I think I got a discount for booking so far ahead (we booked at beginning of Nov).
Regarding how we settled on Montepulciano... We have been to Italy one other time, and stayed in Chianti then. So, we wanted to focus on the southern area of Tuscany. We didn't really have a preference for Montelpulciano, or somewhere else. It just ended up that Montelpulciano was where we found the hotel we liked.
Our main criteria were to stay in a town rather than the country (didn't want to have to drive on poorly lit country roads after a big dinner and lots of wine each evening ) and a hotel with a/c. We were looking for something in the 200E price range. I read lots of posts here, as well as on trip advisor. Also looked at Karen Brown. Bob the Navigator has a great list of hotels, and I looked at all of them. From there, Locanda San Francessco stood out, which meant Montepulciano is where we're staying.
