Tuscany - Chianti / Val d'Orcia
Hi guys,
I thought I won't flood my other topic about Positano, and start a different one.
So we are in Paris and Italy for a month for our honeymoon, and plan on spending 3 nights in Tuscany country side.
At the moment we are deciding between staying in Chianti vs Val d'Orcia. Both are charming...
Here is what we are after:
- Stunning country side, a castle-like / vineyard type of accommodation
- Pool
- Ability to walk somewhere for a great meal. We will have a car, but I want to enjoy a decent dinner with lots of wine, so not having to drive at times would be great.
- Something to explore in the area, i.e. we are thinking about a day trip to Sienna, and may be some other towns.
Budget around 150-180 euros a night.
This is the type of place we are after: http://www.tripadvisor.co.nz/Hotel_R...o_Tuscany.html
It's just not in the right region.

Stunning countryside = Val d'Orcia. Your problem is finding the sweeping views within walking distance of dinner and pool.
You might see if you like this one in Montalcino. It has a pool, views and is actually in the town (on the edge). You would have a choice of quite a few restaurants withing an easy 5-10 minute walk along with quite a few enoteca to sample wines.

Enoteca Osticcio has sweeping views (and food). You can also sample Brunellos at the fortezza (in the courtyard), but it only has views from the top (fee to go up).

There is a hotel at the edge of Pienza old town with views (5 minute walk to dinner) and pool.

You might also look at Montepulciano.

We just spent a night here.

Lovely views, their own restaurant (we didn't eat there as it was a little above our budget), and a nice breakfast is included.
Lee Ann, who really needs to get going on the trip report!

I stayed here about ten years ago and loved it although this little village doesn't have the stunning vistas within walking distance.
Personally, I did not care for Pienza although I realize I am in the minority. The bus loads of tourists descending on the town were a real turn off.

Hi, I have been doing the same thing planning a trip, but I started in April. We are staying in Chianti...Radda. Booked a beautiful Villa for 4 nights. Il bergo de Viscine I think that is how it is spelled. Great location as we have a car. However, I tried to change some dates and locations......Positano was impossible to change, Tuscany is getting booked as well. Find something and book with free cancelations. That way you can keep searching and cancel if you find something that you may enjoy more.
