Turkish airlines from JFK?

Just wanted to see if anyone has flown Turkish airline (or has opt for another airline instead) and how did you feel about safety?

I see a lot of people like the amenities and have good experiences flying Turkish Airlines, and it was just rated the best airline in Europe....BUT I also see their safety record is much worse than most American and other European airlines. I also read an article recently that concerned me that even some its own pilots have raised flags about safety.
(There is one other option (Delta) that works for us, but the departure/arrival times don't work into our schedule as well)

Any thoughts or anyone else had any concerns?

Thanks

I flew them JFK-IST-BUS and IST-JFK in 2009. No problems, although some of the foot space was occupied by a metal box (presumably needed for the seat back video) on the way over. Edible food and free booze, although smallish seats. Lot of security at IST on the way back.

I hadn't heard anything about them having a bad safety record.

I flew domestic flights on Air Turkey and the joke was they are 25 years behind the times, we had leg room, a meal, and the people were nice. (They actually served a turkey sandwich, no kidding.)

I flew TA this past Sept. on a brief 1 hour flight from Athens to Istanbul. On time departure and arrival. Good breakfast. Smooth flight.

We also flew them r/t JFK/IST in 2009 and it was a good experience. We flew them internally also with no problems. The food and service were both good. I hadn't seen the recent safety concerns that you've said their pilots have.

I flew LAX to IST last year, and then I also flew Turkish Air within the country, and the were the best flights I have experienced since the good old days of lovely air travel. The service was superb, the food fantastic, and the planes seemed brand new. It was great. A Middle Eastern friend also flew TA within the country and couldn't stop talking about the good food and service.

We were all flying economy class.

Way better than any US airline.
