Turkey Question: Antalya to Konya?

Question for LowCountryIslander OR anyone else who has travelled by car or bus between Antalya and Konya:

How long is the drive? I've read an estimate of 3 hours, but it sounded from LCI's trip report more like a full day. Also, are there winding mountain roads?

Thanks for your help. We're staying in Cirali for 10 days in June, and planning an overnight to Konya.

Foolishly we took two days to drive from Konya to Antalya, scheduling a night at Lake Egridir. But we were shocked to arrive at Lake Egridir in an hour or two. And the next day, despite taking our time it was only an hour or so to Antalya. So your 3 hours is probably a closer guess than all day, although it sounds a bit fast. If we had it to do over again, we certainly wouldn't have allowed that much time or certainly not an overnight between them -- but that was before I was familiar with the internet and good trip planning.

Hi LaVisiteure...

If my memory serves correctly the drive was around 3 hours. What made it longer for me was that the group stopped for lunch at a roadside restaurant/attraction (cave) and we were there for about 2 hours (give or take).

Have a great time...Turkey is a fantastic country!

Hi LaVisiteure,

As a CIRALI visitors I recommend you rent a car then drive to Konya via Manavgat this road takes 4-5 hours because you are going to drive from cirali. Second days you may use EGRIDIR road and time will be the as same as manavgat road.

Have a nice trip in Turkey

Thank you all so much for the helpful replies; I feel confident – and SO looking forward to this trip! We'll be in Istanbul for 4 days, then Goreme/Cappadocia, then Selcuk, then on to the longer stay in Cirali and thereabouts, then end with 3 more days in Istanbul.

But first, Semana Santa in Antigua, Guatemala...

LaV.

It is at least 4 hours drive to Konya from Antalya downtown.

Since you are coming to Cappadocia, you can also consider driving to Konya from there. It is little over 2 hours to drive.

Happy travelling,
Murat

From Antalya to Cirali just over the hour...another 80kms from Antalya

If you plan to drive yourself this is the best route to take Goreme - Konya - Seydisehir - Manavgat road to Antalya. This is a full day's drive and easily done as the road are very good and well marked.. You may wish to break up the drive by stopping in Konya of take the longer route to Egirdir.

The longer route will be KONYA-ISPARTA ( Egirdir Lake ) -BURDUR-GOLHISAR. While in the Isparta are check out the ancient site of Sagalassos as well as possibly the Burdur museum. And then drive south towards Antalya.

I would estimate the drive from Goreme / Urgup to Antalya direct should take about 7 hours as the drive in kms is about 615 kms. Many other things can factor your driving times...how many times you stop for a break or sightseeing, your own personal driving skills etc.
