Turkey in September

My husband and I are flying into Izmar and renting a car on September 17. We will be driving to Ephesus and touring that city for two days. We will fly back to Istanbul on the 23rd. Any suggestions for places to see from September 20,21 and 22?
We are staying in Istanbul Sept 13-17.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Priene, Miletus, and Didyma are ancient cities not far from Ephesus. The tourism companies call them the "PMD tour" since they are so close together, and are typically included in the same tour. So these three ancient cities would be the most obvious choices. Another choice might be Pergamon (Pergamum) which is north of Izmir, so you would have to double back to see that. It is west of Ayvalık, which is on the Aegean coast. In Google maps, look east of Ayvalık for a town called Bergama (the Turkish name for Pergamon).

Sorry I should have said that Pergamon is EAST of Ayvalık. West is the Aegean Sea!

In addition to previous recommendations, but in place of Cappadocia which may be difficult due to flights in the short time you have, and pergamom and Pamukkale which are not so close, you may also consider Sardis, at Salihli.

Here's our youtube presentation on Sardis

Bursa is fascinating with its silk market, mosque, rows of bridal shops and the cable car rid up the mountain. Can't ski down in September tho.

Pamukkale is a day's drive from Selçuk, with a stop to see Aphrodisias:

If you have a bathing suit, you too can enjoy a dip in a warm pool among the ruins.
