Turkey : Bodrum or Antalya???
Hello,
me and my boyfriend would like to do a last -minnute trip to Turkey this coming 24.09. , for 14 days.
We found some nice pages about in the NET, but now we aren't sure where to go:
Bodrum and region
or Antalya, Alanya, Side..???

We don't want to lay down only on the beach relaxing (of course that should be a part of our holidays!), we want to see something from the country too!
Who has been there and can tell us which interesting place/sight-sees you can visit from Bodrum/Antalya within a day-tour and how much does it cost??

Maybe someone also has a good advice on a cool hotel there,
it should be clean and near to a beach (sand??) but not too far from a centre to go out at night...should has good oportunities with "buses",
should have a nice pool and maybe a double-room with balcony and ocean view...!

I will be glad to receive advices!
Thanks to all!

elynn

We stayed in Side in May. We stayed at the Side Beach Hotel on the beach for not too much (maybe $50USD) with a pool, balcony, included breakfast and dinner. The tourists there were mostly German and seemed to primarily be interested in working on their tans. The beach area came alive at night with vendors, restaurants and bars. It's very crowded so it's not a place to go if you are looking for a quiet relaxing stay at the beach. From Side we were able to see the ruins at Termessos, Aspendos and Perge although Termessos was a bit far.

Along the beach there were all kinds of people selling day trips but our hotel explained that there were lots of stops for shopping which was why they were so cheap. We had a rental car so we drove.

You might be better positioned for the ruins and other regional attractions closer to Antalya. I believe there were lots of nice resorts in Kemer.

With 14 days you might consider visiting more than 1 region. Cappadocia is in the interior, not near the beach, but it might be a nice contrast. It's about 7-8 hours drive, longer by bus, so you'd want to stay there for a couple of days.

Or you could fly to Istanbul for a couple of days, it's only about an hour or so by plane.

if you like to see the sites do not go to Bodrum. All the major sites are quite a few hours away. Either go further north( best option) or right down to the south. Side is supposed to be really nice. ( We stayed just outside Bodrum and would not return there)

If you don't like to lay down and see some places you can stay then fly to Antalya from there you can visit Fethiye, olympos, Kas, Kalkan.
I don't know why everyone is against Bodrum but I love the place. The sea is beautiful. If you visit Bodrum from there you can visit Dalyan(very nice place too)I recommend to stay at a hotel in Yaliciftlik (Bodrum). The area is national park.If you decide about any place then please ask for the accom. The hotels will be less crowded and cheaper.(NOT MANY GERMANS.)Enjoy your trip

I've been to both Bodrum and Antalya. I personally would choose Antalya; though I can't recommend a hotel where you could "lie on the beach". Being an Australian, I didn't think much of the beach at Antalya; but still it's worth going to.

Antalya has a touristy holiday hotel section and then there's the Old City which is marvellous.

When I was wandering around the old city I saw a lovely little hotel called something like Hotel Karyatid which surrounds a courtyard with a swimming pool; the style of the hotel is like an old Turkish house in its external design.

From there you can tour to Perge and Aspendos. And also you can get a tour up to Cappadoccia, which is an absolute don't-miss. I did like Bodrum, but for your purposes I think a hotel like the one I mention might suit you better. If you're interested, I can see whether I can find their brochure; or else you could just look it up on the web.

There are plenty of travel agencies around the place in Antalya wher eyou could organise day tours. Also from the old harbour, depending on the time of year, you can take gulet cruises along the coast as well.

Turkey's a fantastic place - I'm envious of your trip!
