Tripgirl Leaves for Slovenia/ Croatia/Paris this Thurs: Many Thanks and surprise accommodation in Paris!

Hi all!

Leaving this Thurs for Slovenia/ Croatia and Paris and first I wanted to thank people for their postings and advice. So thanks Carta_Pisana, slojan, tower, salt777, callilli, aprilliacs, catbert and so many more!

We are all set and what's this surprise accommodation in Paris??!! Well....

we usually stay with friends( we've been to Paris many times), but this time we are celebrating our 15th wedding anniv during our trip this time . DH surprised me with a stay at the Four Seasons George V!

Most of you know we are not budget travelers, but we usually don't consider the likes of George V because we are out and about the city so much. But what a surprise indeed. Heck, how many times do you have a 15 wedding anniv?

For those going to Croatia in Sept, which seems like half this board!, I will post as soon as I get home. Happy Cheesehead, Syl, dixieland, Lowcountryislander; I will make sure I give you even more info for you to pack!

Meanwhile, here is our itinerary so you can follow along.

Day trip to Lake Bled planned. Riverside dinners, etc

July 16: Depart Dubrovnik for Hvar via Split ( bus and ferry).

July 16-18th; Hvar. Hotel Croatia, Hvar Town. Relax on Hvar. Day trip to St Klement possible. Sun, swim, nightlife.

July 19th: Depart Hvar to Trogir for overnight. Catching plane early for Paris the next day

July 19th Trogir: Hotel Vila Sikaa. Walk the town, decompress, relax, nice dinner.

In Ljubljana have dinner at Sokal. It was recommended by our hotel and we were afraid it might be geared up for the tourist trade, but it was wonderful. Friendly service, good (cheap)food and the best bread ever. We watched it coming out of the oven. The house wine was cheap and very drinkable.
Have a good trip.

Tripgirl-
Sounds like a fabulous trip. We just returned from Croatia a couple of weeks ago.

If there is any way you can work it into your itinerary, I would highly recommend going to Plitvice National Park on the way to Split. Park near the Jezero hotel, take the tram/bus to the last stop which is at the highest lake. I believe it is station 4. You can spend 2-3 hours (or more if you want) walking around the Upper Lakes. I think the Upper Lakes are more scenic than the lower, and if you only have a few hours, that's where I'd recommend. Plitvice is unbelievably beautiful. It would make for a long day, but it's like no place you've ever seen.

We also stayed at Hotel Park in Split and The Grand Villa Argentina in Dubrovnik. Both are very nice.

Happy Anniversary!

Tripgirl,
Looking forward to your report. Please ask Hotel Croatia how warm it is in Hvar last week in Sept.because they have no air conditioning apparently. We'll also be starting our trip in Ljubljana so, if you have a chance, please check out the Hotel Emonec which we reserved. It's on Wolfova just by a main square near the water. The food in Slovenia is supposed to be the best of the trip. As well, friends honeymooming now in Croatia, urge everyone to bring bug spray, cash also is a must vs credit cards. They also report their love of Bol for beaching. Have a ball.

Have a great time. Don't forget to have a drink at Buzza Bar, hanging off the front wall of Dubrovnik.

Tripgirl....have a wonderful, meaningful, exciting, exotic visit to Croatia/Slovenia. You will!
I second Issy's suggestion above that ytou try to visit Plitvice (plit-veechee) en route from Zag to Solit...well worth the few extra hors of exploration of eye-popping surroundings. With daylight until 10 getting to Split later in the day or early evening won't matter much.

We stayed at the Hotel Park and ragard it highly. It's a throwback to the 20's and 30's...sit out on the lovely terrace overlooking the sea, close your eyes and think of Japanese lanterns, a string quartet playing gypsy folk tune, as newly-independent Yugoslavia enjoys its new life after WW I.
In Dub, the Argentina is a grand polace, but take a short walk further up the narrow road and visit the Villa Dub (my favorite) if only just to look at thge stunning views and interior of the hotel. If you see Nada, the manager, please say hello from the writer from California...she'll remember that she helped me with my research for a new novel, by fetching some great old photos of "Dubrovnik-Ragusa" (c. 1890's).

Sorry you won;t have the car in Dub otherwise I would heartily recommend my favorite restuarant, especially the rural, waterfall setting...a few miles south of the airport in the remote stretches leading to Bosnia...Konavoski Dvori..

Enjoy and immerse yourselves in Croatia!
