Trip to Venice/Germany with 18 year old

Jump to last reply

I just started planning a trip with my 18 year old niece. She wants to see Venice and maybe combine it with Germany or Austria. We have 8 days available for travel. I am considering flying from the US to Venice and flying home from either Munich or Vienna. We are thinking of traveling by train from Venice to Salzburg, spend a couple of days in Salzburg and then travel from Salzburg to Munich or Vienna(larger airport). I know this won't give us time in Munich or Vienna but I visited Salzburg many years ago and have wanted to return and thought she might enjoy it. Does anyone know how long the train ride would be for each leg of the trip (Venice to Salzburg, Salzburg to Vienna or Salzburg to Munich)? Is the train station in Venice near the airport? Do we need to purchase tickets in advance? cost? We are open to other trip ideas. The only thing we are set on is that the trip must contain Venice at some point. I have been to Venice before and would like to combine it with another destination. Fodors forum writers always come up with great ideas.

All help is greatly appreciated. Happy New Year!
