Trip Report - 3 Days in London for Mid-20's Couple (Fresh!)
Just 2 weeks ago so this is fresh!
This is a trip report of a 3 day visit to London (we're from SF). This is the first stop of a 2 week trip that my girlfriend and I took in late Sept ’12. We do a big vacation every year and this year it was an Italy trip (Tuscany and South Italy). We decided to stop by in London for 3 days since we had a layover anyway. It was a lot of fun but still looking for really good food in London. Maybe we looked in the wrong places?

I am always amazed when people say they didnt find good food in London! There are so many great places on my list that it would take years to try them all!
Try www.toptable.co.uk for ideas next time you are in London!
Glad you enjoyed your trip!

Yea - I don't think I did enough research, had good enough pointers to point me to good food. I knew about toptable but was hesitant to use it because I was afraid if I invested the time and money to book and dine at a nicer restaurant, I would feel too disappointed. So stayed with more casual dining options. I would've loved to use yelp.com if it was more popular out there.

Why would you need to invest time and money on toptable? I use it for research all the time for reviews and to see menus. Booking is 99% free, with the odd top restaurant requiring a credit card (I have never booked using a credit card). You can even book same day. Or just use it as a reference!
Interesting theory - I have always found that investing time and occassionally a bit more money have led me to better food! Usually just taking the time to find a restaurant in my budget works better than just wandering around trying to pick some place - especially in tourist areas and for pubs!
Hope this helps others find good food in London!

I just took another look at toptable.co.uk and realized that unlike opentable.com (the U.S. company that acquired toptable) there are legitimate reviews and full menus. I didn't give it enough of a chance because I assumed that toptable was like opentable (good for reservations but unreliable for reviews and restaurant discovery).
