Trenitalia Tickets

I am trying to book train travel from the USA on the Trenitalia site but it will not accept my US Credit Cards.

How do I navigate around this?

Eurail is SO much more expensive to book through for the same routings.

Is it too risky to book once I arrive at FCO - is there a ticket office at the airport there I can use?

I need to get from Rome to Grosseto then from Grosseto to Venice.

Thanks for your help!

SOS!!!

A lot of the trains from Roma to Grosseto are regional trains with no seat reservations so no reason to book in advance. You can book the second journey once you get to Italy.

There are security issues in using your US credit card on the Trentalia site. You need to call your credit card company first and let them know you are using your card in Italy or on an Italian site. I always mention Trentailia, but that may not be necessary.

If you do a search of "Trentalia" under Italy, there will be many threads with helpful advice.

There was a train ticket window at FCO. They spoke English well and had a short queue.

By the ticket in Italy. It is much easier and smarter because schedules could change, strikes may happen etc etc.

Here's a little video to help you buy a TrenItalia ticket in Italy on the electronic machine so that you avoid the lines:

Regarding the Trenitalia ticket vending machine: I have used them for travels DEPARTING from the station where the machines are located, but I have not been able to figure out a way to buy tickets NOT involving the station where the machines are located. I always ended up having to go to ticket windows.

Are these machines capable of issuing tickets for travels NOT involving the station where the machine is located?

For example, if I am at Termini and already have a Rome-Florence ticket , can I buy a Florence-Venice ES ticket at a ticket vending machine at Termini?

Greg - I've never done it - but I'm pretty sure you can.

I presume you just change the 'departure station.'

Maybe someone else can confirm ...
