Hello,
I have bought a few train tickets on the trenitalia site for a trip in May. I've gotten confirmation emails with PNR codes as well as a PDF file with what looks to be a printable ticket. Do I also need to bring a receipt or invoice? I don't seem to have either a receipt or invoice unless that is the same thing as my PDF ticket.
I am hoping to make sure I am doing this correctly before I buy more tickets online!
Do I need to do anything with these tickets before boarding the trains?
Thank you!!

The one with the PDF file is ur ticket, I purchased it before I came to Italy , paid 39 euros. I was weary if it would be all ok . I had purchased it from Milan to Rome and had no problem at all! You get a much better deal purchasing it ahead of time. Had I known that on my prior trip to Italy, I would of saved a lot of money. But at least I know now.
I assume you are talking about fast train tickets. The ticket is its own invoice; you can print your pdf ticket for your convenience as they have all the infos you will need - departure time and date, car and place numbers, PNR codes. But the only thing the conductor will be interested will be PNR codes and may be the name you use to register the ticket; (s)he will have an electronic device and will have to enter your PNR to check your number in his/her database. Actually, if you have no access to a printer, you could have your PNR and reservation data sent as SMS to a cell phone, or even write them down in writing to present to the conductor. As long as you can show a PNR and name matching the conductor database, you will be fine.
Scroll down on this link until you get to the part about PNR codes. It shows you what you need.
