Trenitalia Ramping Up for Summer 2014

Trenitalia is ramping up its summer schedules once again this year to add new fast trains, including new routes to the mountains and to the sea, as is noted in the following press release:

A few highlights, in English:

1. Sales up 10% compared to 2013
2. Roughly 50% of tickets at promotional fares (Economy, Super Economy, Bimbi Gratis, 2X1, etc.)
3. From January through May 2014, 25 million passengers, of which 12 million on Frecciarossa/Frecciargento trains
4. Summer 2014: 400 trains, of which 231 Freccia (87 Frecciarossa, 58 Frecciargento, 86 Frecciabianca), 100 Intercity, and 24 Intercity Notte
5. Frecce passengers doubled from 100 million to 200 million between 2012 and 2014
6. 120,000 domestic animals transported from January through May 2014
7. 23 million passengers expected from June through September 2014 (2 million more than in 2013)
