has anyone used the trenitalia site http://www.trenitalia.it/ for booking train travel recently? I noticed that the site has been under construction and just recently is permitting the purchase of tickets online.
If anyone has had success using the site, are the automated ticket collection machines easy to find at the big stations, what do they look like?
I am leaving for Rome tomorrow and plan to train it to Florence and Venice.
Thanks in advance.

Bob, if you are going to be in Rome for a few days, I would recommend buying the tickets from the agents in the train station. Ostensibly the machines work (they are the clunky looking ones preceded by long lines headed by some young thing repeatedly jamming her credit card into the machine). I, for one, have never been successful, for a variety of reasons.
