Last week (24-25/07/2012) I travelled on the Trenitalia Euronight service 220 from Venice to Paris GDL. It arrived more than 3 hours late and I missed my Eurostar and domestic transfers. I am now trying to get an email from Trenitalia stating this train was late so that I can claim on my insurance. I have phoned Trenitalia and they tell me that they cannot do this! Does anyone know how I can get proof that this train was late?

I assume you talking about the Thello train. Why not contact them?

All the more reason to take trains operated by the SNCF. When any train has a delay of more than 30 minutes, the agents are waiting for you at the arrival point with the compensation request envelopes. 30 minutes = 25% refund, 1 hour = 50% refund, etc. You can also get a full refund plus a free ticket for the future when the delay is more than 2 hours.
As for proof of trains being late, it is common record. All you need is the date of travel and the train number, and it is all on file with the SNCF, Trenitalia, or Thello.
Hello... We are having the same problem with Trenitalia... bordering on a nightmare.... Did you get a response/email regarding the train delay? It appears to be a closed book. They advised us that after 20 days we will find the delay reason. We rang them, only for them to terminate the call 3 times!
Any help would be appreciated.
Kerouac : that's the theory ....things are unfortunately slightly differnt in practice. It is 25% off for a delay of 30 minutes to 2 hours. My TGV was almost an hour late last August. There were no agents at the arrival point, I had to go to the information desk to get the request envelop. I did not get a refund, I got a voucher (25% of the ticket cost) valid for a year to be used next time I take the train provided I exchange it at the station.
