Trenitalia Announced Termination of Promotional Fares
Trenitalia has announced the TERMINATION, effective October 13, 2006, of its two advance purchase promotional fares:
"Eurostar a 29 Euro" for ES trains; and
"Liberta' di Viaggiare" for ICP, IC, ICN and EXP trains, fares starting as low as 15 Euros.
All travel with tickets issued at these fares must be completed by October 14, 2006.
It remains to be seen whether Trenitalia will usher in new promotional fares to replace the ones being terminated.
These two fares represented an excellent way to travel cheaply on long-distance trains in Italy.

Thanks so much for posting this. I was so afraid this was going to happen before our trip. The promotional rates convinced me to visit Venice in addition to Rome with our grandsons. Sure hope they replace it with something of similar value, but I doubt that will happen.
Our planned trip isn't until next March, and with all the rising costs (and falling income!), the probability of our trip to Italy is looking pretty dim. Has me quite depressed!

According to the Trenitalia website, all tickets for these promotional rates must be purchased by October 13, and all travel must be completed by October 14.
You are out of luck, although Trenitalia MAY introduce some different types of promotional fares in the future.
Or they might not, at least not as attractive as the two fares being eliminated.
This is indeed too bad.

Ron1006: You have not seen it because it is currently only on the Italian-language site. Click on "Promozioni e Offerte", then on "Eurostar a partire da 29 Euro" and "Liberta' di viaggiare a partire da 15 Euro".
I'll be curious to know whether you can "short" the system and get these promotional discounts for travel in late October, despite what is stated on the website (in Italian). The fares have NOTE YET been downloaded from the system (when you look for promotional fares beyond October 13, 2006).
Nevertheless, I would indeed take at face value what is stated on the Italian-language website, i.e. the promotional fares will terminate effective October 13, 2006.
