Trendy Dining in Rome

Ciao tutti

Looking for hip midrange dining suggestions in Roma.

This is for August

I have Gusto & also Le Bain booked, looking for one more for our final night in Rome. Not looking to spend more than 40,00 or so p/p on the meal.

P.S. - Not Supperclub

I'm a stylish, hip, modern guy and looking for sit down modern ristorante to enjoy while in Roma.

Looking to spread out my choices through town, to enjoy different parts of town. Got Le Bain in the South historic area, and Gusto up near Piazza del Spagna. Thinking I need a place in either Ludovisi section or Trestevere area.

Is Settembrini's a good choice...if its open...is it walkable from the ponte sisto?

Any other suggestions?

Grazie

Well think I made my final decisions.

Xld Le Bain, book Hosteria Glass & Ristorante Trattoria.

So my three reservations are:
Ristorante Trattoria - the final night before the close for Vacanza!

Gusto
&
Hosteria Glass

Still willing to take suggestions though, so its not a dead post!

Ciao

Also looking for trendy Rome restaurant recommendations? Out of curiousity, why not supper club? Have a friend who loves the San Fran location, but nervous about it being a chain. Have heard good things about the restaurant below, interior looks very nice, though located in the Parioli neighborhood, which i believe is a bit north.

I try and go to different places and discover different ristorante. I wasn't very strong on dining, until just the last year.

I wouldn't rely on them. Any "expert" should know that when searching for trendy restaurants, Glass was so 18 months ago. Gusto was hot about three or four years ago. Any certainly an expert would know that yes, Milan is a virtual ghost town the last two weeks of August and the majority of designer shops will be closed.

Well, jaw23, I can give you recommendations of places I've enjoyed. I don't pretend to be an "expert" and I usually don't go to trendy restaurants in Rome, preferring traditional Roman cuisine. But some of the newer places I've enjoyed are Il Pagliaccio, Tutti Frutti and Trattoria Monti. All have wonderful, creative food without the gimmicks of some of the spots that are "trendy."

Prada why don't you give us some of your favorite places in Rome and other cities in Italy and we can see if we can recommend someplaces for you based on your tastes... your choices do seem a bit....not sure of how to describe. Have you spent much time in Rome?

Ciao all

You have to understand that I really didn't focus on dining spots until the last year, actually less. The reason our agency never did any dinner reservations we just gave clients...who are all typical tourist mostly the simple basis tourist dining recommeadtion list. Now after work for Ponzio for 8 years. I took it on my own to start offering dinner reservations at no additional cost for our clients. Therefore 8 years of italy travel had to be recalled and refreshed to come up with the places I would recommend to clients now. My boss disagrees we me, and thinks I should charge a surcharge to call all these places direct and make reservations, but I do it cause I want to, and my boss has accepted it.

The places I listed above, I agree I been to Gusto before, Have never been the Glass and just recently discovered Ristorante Trattoria. Would I recommend these to clients, Gusto..always, but the other to not till I've been to them personally and am satisifed with them..becuase i am very picky.

I'm returning to Gusto, becuase well who wouldn't! plus this will be my mothers first trip to europe..let alone italia.

What would I recommend to clients? Well most of the average tourist just want nice dining and central locations, so I don't discuss trendy places like I desire. I have a list of 20 or so ristorante that i give to clients in each city: some on this list consist of: Romilio, Le Bain, Acqua Negra, Gusto, Gina (which only does lunch in the summer...this bothers me...on well), Deseo,

In Firenze, I;m not to big on any trendy places and perfer traditional tuscan places like: Borgo Anitco, Mario's, il Latini, Filipepe..(can never get in touch with this place though!)

Venice is way to touristy, I'm going to show it to my mom, got a sweet deal to stay at the new Ca'Sangredo 5 star boutique palazzo. But I'd skip it if she wasn't coming with me. All the places like in venice are traditional and in Dorsodoro.

About Milan, Grinisa...I kinda figured some places would be closed, but everything just surprised me. Last year I was in Rome just after Ferragosto and found alot of things open, so didn't expect Milan to be void of everything. We will arrive midday on the 16th from Venice, we have res to see the last supper the next morning and then were taking to train up to Como being the city will be closed, but our hotel for that night is in Milan so we will make are way back later around 6pm or so from Como.

P.S. - I don't try to be something I'm not. I've worked my a** off for 7 years to earn this title. The owner an 60 y/o Italian who knows italy in/out is extremely satisifed with my knowledge and wouldn't call me and italian specialist if he did not feel I earned it properly. My title for my first 4 years was simply 'Travel Consultant' We are Italian owned & operated and been in business since '54
We are one single small agency working our a** off in a industry that has seen 50% of agencies in the U.S. shut down.

If its Italy you need, we know it.

Woke up this morning thinking to change my choices a bit, I think I want fashionable but not over the top dining choices, being my mother is with me, I think she would not be into overtly trendy choices. So called Italia this morning and 'jaw23' I booked Molto! I'll let you know how it is, also I'm thinking ReCafe instead of Gusto, don't want both....

I need to just decide and leave it be other I'll just keep rethinking myself...argh.

Here is what I have so far:
2/4 Nts in Roma - reserved - Ristorante Trattoria (My mom will love the see through kitchen as a student chef) & Molto (I'm feelin this place)

Sorrento - Open - 1NT

2/4 Nts in Firenze - reserved -
il latini & Borgo Antico..rethinking these....

1/2 Nts in Venezia - reserved -
Al Marsacon...I'm spelling it wrong ...

2 Nts - Milan - Open...but were in Como one of those full days...I'm thinking having dinner up there and getting a later train back to Milan.

1 Nt - Rome - reserved -
Hosteria Glass...I thinking this may be to different for my mom, any thoughts.. our final nt in Italia I want this to be a enoyable last night out...it falls on the 18th August...so alot of the better places are closed.

Why don't you look into Al Moro in Rome...more upscale than trendy but by all accounts the food is excellent. You have to dress well.

I hesitate to discuss places I like because our tastes are not the same..but I do respect that you have done all this work to get your title. But when you describe yourself as a "stylish, hip, modern" guy...people might get the idea that you are....not sure what......no offense intended..

No No No..I did not think that your description meant that you were gay! And if you were/are, so what....I mean it is funny to describe oneself as hip and modern, and then with that screen name...anyway, no offense intended. I hope you have fun...I think any place I would recommend would not be hip or modern enough to suit you!! Maybe your mother! Anyway, make sure to post when you get back so we can read all about your meals!
