The Travelodge website has some excellent Saver prices for our stay in London in August, but they are non refundable. I plan to check on tripadvisor, but does anyone have advice or comments on any of the London properties? We are mostly concerned with location and availability of the tube.
On our last trip to London we stayed near Waterloo station and liked the location.
Some of the inexpensive hotels were Tower Bridge, City Road, King's Cross, and Marylebone. Southwark was a bit more than those.
Thanks!

i will be staying at the City Rd property in March - I have posted on here and gotten favorable reviews. Good luck!!!
I've only stayed at Travelodge properties in the UK outside of London. They are very basic, trimmed to the bare bones but if you are getting an excellent rate, go for it.
You can key in the address of the Travelodge you are looking at on
www.multimap.co.uk
this will give you an idea of what is around, including the tube stations.
If you are staying in London over the weekend, be aware that most things in the City are closed - including shops and restaurants. We stayed near Tower Bridge once over a weekend and struggled to find somewhere open to eat. It was dead.

As per Kay's post, shops restaurants and bars in the City (EC1 area) are generally closed at the weekend, and the area is very quiet indeed. However, this can be a good time to explore the City's maze of tiny streets and alleyways without the usual traffic jams and crowds of people.
If you head a few stops west-bound on the tube or bus towards the west end (Covent Garden, Picadilly, Oxford Street areas), you will have no problems finding places that are open. Wherever you are in London, you are unlikely to be more than a few minutes walk away from the nearest tube station/bus stop.
The Transport for London site is useful for downloading tube/bus maps and for general travel information - http://www.tfl.gov.uk/
Hope this helps.
Andy.
The Tower Bridge Travel Lodge is on the south side of the bridge, on Tower Bridge Road. There's also a Premier Inn nearby. It's not the most characterful area, but wander back to Bermondsey Street and there are all the signs of gentrification, if not a massive range of cafés, restaurants and the like. The main problem is that you are dependent on either a long-ish walk to the tube or a limited number of bus routes to get you to the tube.
The one at Marylebone looks to me to be much better situated from both of those points of view, depending on exactly where you want to get to.
lyn - Hi, We have stayed at The Travelodge King's Cross some years ago and since then opted for The Ibis Euston. The rooms at Travelodge looked a tad worn but of course probably been renewed by now.
We preferred The Travelodge at Putney - tube just around the corner but of course the tube ride is longer in & out of the city centre. The lovely walks along the Thames from there were a plus.
