travelling in June with 7,5,&1 year old

Any suggestions for a week long stay in one location for family of five in Switzerland. We will be travelling June 14-21. Also, would you receommend a hotel or rental of a home? Thanks, Beth

any preferences? likes? dislikes? drive? train? My honest opinion, I think Disneyworld and a hotel with a pool would be a big hit with your family. Save the European experience for either you & hubby or for when the kids are older.

From the ages of your children, I would think that you would be much happier renting a home. I don't think you are a troll, but I think in terms of relaxing vacation time, anyone trying to staying in nearby rooms in a hotel is not likely to welcome your presence, unless dthey are also a family with children who enjoys the kind of atmosphere this creates. No one else will.
Ditto for taking this number of children of these ages on any plane trip of great distance. I am assuming this trip is just for you, not really for your children, at least in the case of the 1 and 5 year-olds. But go for it!! Maybe by the time you go, there will be an airplane that offers planerides exclusively for happy families with several young children, who need lots and lots of leeway (more than other travelers) so the rest of us can enjoy our own trip in peace!

Don't be discouraged by these posters. I have one small child and have taken her to Europe once with no problems and I am planning another trip in March. Certainly your experience will be different than travelling as a couple but it will still be rewarding. You may like staying in Interlaken because there are many day trips available to different spots. Grindelwald is a small town with access to great hiking trails and lifts that the kids will likely enjoy. Lucerne would also be good because you can take a boat out to many different towns and hiking locations and the kids may also enjoy that. As far as hotel or home - only you know your children enough to determine whether they will disturb other guests in a hotel. I think a hotel would likely be more convenient but I do agree that you do not want to disturb other guests. Good luck!

My post was not intended to discourage Beth - - from destinations in Europe, nor in the US.
My post was also misunderstood. I said "go for it", but recommended renting a place where other people would not be disturbed (thus preventing potential hostility from your vacation neighbors).
If Beth's 7, 5, and i year old have a great time, and she can also be confident that they are considerate of other people, fine! My post is based on several trips to Europe and several other long flight in the US. I don't need to go into detail here, the subject has been covered ad nauseum in this forum, because of the fact that it is a very sore subject for anyone who has experienced disruptions of this kind. Beth, hope you have a great time with your kids, whethter here or abroad, but I also hope and PRAY that those around you are also able to enjoy the trip they paid for equally as well. Your travel neighbors have rights too, whatever their age or parental status.
