Traveling to Northern Italy

I wanted to ask if anyone knows how difficult is it to travel from Genoa to Sicily? I wanted to know
if you had to fly or take the train? If anyone has taken this trip please respond to me post.
I thank you in advance for your help.

Taking the train would be quite long---14 hours to Messina and 17 hours to Palermo. I would fly.

You could take the train to Civitavecchia (3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours) and then an overnight ferry to Palermo from there. The ferry doesn't run every day.

It would still take a very long time, but most of it would be overnight.

Ryan Air flies a route Genoa-Trapani. I've done it. Perfecly nice flight!

I believe you can also take a ferry between Palermo & Genoa -- which I have never done. That would be an overnight trip, or perhaps an all day trip. At least 12 hours, I would think.

Just to be clear -- you don't need to go to Civitavecchia to take the ferry. There is a ferry port in Genova with ferries to Palermo. But I don't know what the schedule is, how many per week/mo, etc.

Palermo bound GNV ferries leave Genova daily at 21.00 since decades. You can book all kinds of cabins and reclining seats.

We flew from Oisa to Palermo several years ago. I'm sure there must be flights from Genoa to Palermo. Check flight schedules.
