Traveling Nice to Italy - train or plane?
Two friends and I will be traveling from Nice to Venice to Florence to Capri to Rome. Do you recommend sticking with the tried and true eurail or trying to fly (especially Nice to Venice) on one of their local commuter airlines? All told we'll be in Europe for about 10 days so obviously we don't want to waste a lot of our time on the travel part but we're also not the richest people.
And if we do take the train, is Eurrail the best/cheapest or has anybody ever tried trenitalia?
Thank you!

"Eurail" - - or more accurately, RailEurope USA is simply a marketing for the 23 separate national companies of each of the participating countries in Europe. Because they copperate, and all use RailEurope as their marketing repersentative here in the US - - you might think that RailEurope actually operates railroads - - not so.
Trenitalia is the national rail company in Italy. Buy your tickets from them. With few exceptions, you should wait until you are there to buy them.
I suspect that there isn't a good airline alternative for this route - - didn't bother to check - - but if it exists, it will be listed on www.whichbudget.com
Best wishes,
Rex

We recently took the train from Nice to LaSpezia, and the scenery itself would be worth going by train instead of plane. You would likely be heading toward Venice at Genoa, but still the ride to that point would offer gorgeous scenery. We bought tickets after we got to Nice. No problems. Enjoy, PJK

Hi ok,
As best I know, you can fly cheaply from Nice to Rome or to Naples, but not to Venice.
See www.whichbudget.com and

Since Rex loves to dwell on details I am forced to point out that "Eurail" and RailEurope are two entirely separate entities (both controlled by railoads/shipping companies) and both marketing the passes and point-to-point tickets.
Back to one of the main question:
I would suggest you do not need to travel on passes for these journeys but, if anything, on point-to-point tickets.
Ira gives good aedvice as to finding budget air possibilities and you can also use www.skyscanner.net to find budget flights within Europe.

Fair enough. The OP used the expression "the tried and true eurail" - - which <i>most likely</i> means "that company which sells the <i>EurailPass</i>".
But I shall not quibble with your correcting me.
In any event, I overlooked the easier - - and perhaps more obvious choice (given that I just used it myself, only a week ago) - - buy it from SNCF.com
Painless, secure and you can print your own ticket, directly from your own computer.
