Between London and Brussels you'd take the Eurostar train. It departs London from St Pancras station. eurostar.com
To get to and from St Pancras from your hotel or Heathrow, you can take the tube tfl.gov.uk or get a car service to the airport.
If you do a search you should find plenty of threads covering these topics in detail. Have fun planning!
The quickest way from central London to Brussels is by Eurostar train.
The quickest way from central Brussels to Heathrow is by plane. But often quicker and cheaper still to have, before you leave home, an open jaw plane ticket : your home-Heathrow: Brussels-your home.
"Not sure which train to take from London downtown to Brussels"
There is only one -- as mentioned, the Eurostar from St Pancras. How to get to St Pancras varies depending on exactly where you are staying since 'near' Buckingham Palace could mean lots of places.
Taking the train back to London makes no sense though because you'd then have to cross all of London to get from St Pancras to the airport.
So - take the train to Brussels (booked well in advance to save a lot of ££), and fly back to LHR.
