Traveler Gifts: What Are You Going To Ask Santa For This Year?
Okay, it’s time to fess up about who has been naughty and who has been nice! A few of you wise guys are on the borderline, but might squeak by if you clean up your acts this month.
I’m compiling my annual wish list to send to Santa and been cleaning my filthy chimney so the jolly old codger can slide as loose as a goose into my cabin on Christmas Eve.
So, what niffy travel-related gifts are you asking for? Here’s a few of mine:
Swiss Army knife
Italian language tapes
Michelin Green guides
Italian Menu Guide
Silk underwear
Waterproof hiking boots
Magnifying glass for map reading
Purple and orange fanny pack
Historical fiction books
Molvania Travel Atlas
Dolly Parton Mini-Fan (guess where the red, white and blue blades are mounted)

bardo1, I'm not sure its required, but I've had my eye on one for a while and need to get it out of my system.
Anybody else in the same boat? Funny how I always come back not having used something I swore would come in handy.

I need new luggage too. Does anyone know if there are warranties on luggage? WE purchased Swiss Watch luggage one year ago and the pull up handle does not work and some little holes. It was expensive and it makes me so mad...
I would love a wool jacket from Austria!!

Degas - I have been very very good this year and I am hoping that hubby recognizes that fact and buys the tickets. I know I am buying him tickets to Rome for Christmas (guess who the other ticket goes to?)and I am hoping for tickets to Istanbul. We have both gotten to the point that we would rather have airline tickets than jewelry, electronics and all of the other stuff that we used to buy for each other. In fact we gave each other airline tickets to Pairs for our anniversary last year and we don't leave until May. The date of departure can be a long way off as long as I have the tickets in hand. Then I get to start planning. What a great gift.

Top on my list...
a monocular... non army-looking... so I can use it to see closeup detail of anything I want to anywhere I go!!! (Smaller and lighter weight than birding binoculars or smaller travel versions of binoculars.)
New travel umbrellas.
Silk underwear for me too!!! I need bottoms to match the a silk underwear top I purchased last year. It was a phenomenal light-weight and warm traveling treasure.
Sony Memory Sticks for my digital camera.
Continued good health and steady paychecks.
Really fine, high cocao content chocolate.
Policy change for more vacation at each of our jobs... or a plan that allows for sabaticals. (Have I been <b>that good</b>?) O
Degas...As for the swiss army knife... specify one that has a wine-bottle opener as an attachment. It's an essential tool in my book. You might also ask for a Leatherman or a Gerber tool for driving trips. I find my Gerber to be essential when traveling on road-trips when I travel with my French easel. ... Changes in altitude and temperature seem to lock those wingnuts way too tight. Also works for opening paint tubes that have become too stuck-on tight.

annesherrod, I just pulled up www.ebags.com and clicked at random on one of their Victorinox bags, which I believe is the same as the "Swiss Watch" luggage. The bag that came up has a "Lifetime warranty against defects in material or workmanship," so I imagine yours would too.
I recently bought a Samsonite bag, and the wheels shredded on its first trip. I was directed by Samsonite to take it to a luggage repair facility in my zip code. I did as they directed and the wheels were replaced at no charge. The new wheels survived a three-week trip to Europe.

MrAmazed, LOL! Be careful not to drop one el ... your spouse will be very surprised to see a lama rather than a llama. (Speaking of which, we had the Dalai Lama on our flight from Toronto to Paris in May. He beamed at everyone and signed lots of autographs.)
degas, you dream up wonderful threads. I just booked our next vacation this morning so I'm asking for a new suitcase that will meet Air Canada's carry-on rules. I should probably be hoping for a Chinese menu guide, too, because we're going to Hong Kong. I hope the residents of the Asia board are as much fun as the Europe crowd.
