Travel to portugal in last week of apr
Hello Fodorites,
we will be travelling to portugal during the last week of april a for 12 days and would like to stay at small quality hotels with character (not big americanized places) or BB. We dont mind paying a price for it. We would appreciate any suggestions. We will be travelling through Lisbon, Porto, Duro valley and north of portugal.
Thanks.

When I visit the Douro Valley my favorite place to stay is a working quinta called Quinta de la Rosa. It is a wonderful place in Pinhao right on the Douro River. they have rooms like a B&B or a house on top of the mountain with views to die for. www.quintadelarosa.com

I've seen a number of interesting, boutique style inns in Portugal on the following website:
www.wonderfulland.com
If you click on the green map on the left you can navigate around the country. Some of hotel links aren't in english, but you can do a seperate google search for the property.

This site: http://www.sawdays.co.uk/titles/po/index.html has good picks for Portugal. I stayed at this place: http://www.castelosantacatarina.com.pt/ in Porto, and loved it. It does take a couple of buses to get downtown, though.
In the Duoro valley I stayed at the Residencial Imperio in Regua, which was convenient for the train station, but if you have a car you could do much better.
