travel to Harlem and Delft

We visited Haarlem during one trip, and took about 1/2 day to walk around the old town from the train station, look thru the market being held in the square, walk along the canal to see the 'milk bridge', etc... we didn't go inside anything except the church. I would say we spent about 5 hours. The train from Amsterdam Centraal was about a 20 minute ride.
I don't know how far Delft is by train.

If you take the sneltrein/fasttrain (departs every 28 min and 58 min after the hour from Harlem) you'll get to Delft in 36 minutes(direction Leiden). The indirect train takes 45 minutes and two changes (departs 10 and 40 min after the hour).
Delft has just a tiny oldtown with tiny canals. I had a cousin showed me the important sites: a leaning church tower like in Pisa (much less dramatic), a main church, an old city gate and a secret canal escape from the house where William of Orange used to live. It's definitely doable in a few hours. I was more impressed by the Delft University campus & its library building than the oldtown itself.

Yes, but not recommended.
In addition to the walk described by travelnut, there is also the Franz Hals Museum - well worth a couple of hours.

i spent one day each in haarlem & delft. i tend to take my time when traveling, but you could do both if you don't mind rushing around a bit. i think ideally you would want to take a day to see delft. it's a beautiful town with much to see....

If you leave Harlem very early in the moring you can catch a plane to AMS and land in about 10 hours or so. But because of the time difference I donŽt think youŽll make it on the same day. But certainly within 24 hours.

In Haarlem, the Corrie Ten Boom house is a must see for me. It is somewhat similar to the Anne Frank house but is much more intimate, admitting only smaller groups. At this time, the experience at the Corrie Ten Boom house gives you a better feel for how the resistance during WWII worked and felt.

Yes, but it would be a very long day, which would be fine if it is in the spring or summer, when daylight lasts until 10 or 11 pm. If you go to Haarlem, you'll want to check out the church, Frans Hals Museum and Teylor's Museum and walk around the little streets. You should know that the Corrie Ten Boom house lets you walk into the hiding spot behind a wall, but you must be prepared to sit through an hour of proselitizing. (sp?) Delft is a great place to walk around. If you want to see graves, you can see Vermeer's and van Leewenhoek's. There are lots of really good places to eat, and there's a lively market on the weekends. Both places are relatively small. Have fun!
