Travel to Greece
Hi, I am traveling to Greece in September. My first trip to Greece was in 01, and I was lucky enough to spend three weeks there. However I am going again with a friend who has never been. I am struggling with the travel plans. I wanted to spend about 2 days in Athens and then end the trip with three days in Mykonos. With the days in between- not sure if we should travel to other islands - Crete, Santorini, Rhodes or take some time up to the Peloponnese. I would love any feedback. Thanks B

First of all, how many days will you have between Athens and Mykonos?
Keep in mind that travel to Rhodes is time-consuming by ferry, expensive by plane and probably not a daily ferry option from the islands, so if you don't have a lot of time you might want to choose an island closer to Mykonos for easy daily access by ferry.
I do recommend that you save Athens until the end of your trip so you won't have to stress catching your flight home (unless you choose the Peloponnese as your third stop). Sometimes, although rarely, the ferries back to the mainland can be cancelled because of high winds or mechanical problems.

I'm also planning a trip to
Greece in September and am having a heck of a time with
air arrangements. I want to stop in Paris for a week and then onto Greece to meet a cruise of the islands, then a few days at the end to explore Athens and Santorini.
I can book vacation packages including air and hotel which allow me to leave later than when the package is through or just book my own air but use their hotels.
Any suggestions for hotels in
Athens, Mykonos and Santorini?
And any advice on the trip in general will be appreciated.
Many Thanks.

brotherleelove and anyone else,
Thanks for all your posts on this forum, and believe me, I think I have read 100s. Probably read too many, for I still have a question or 2 on Santorini.
My wife and I are in our 50s and will be in Greece for 15 days, with probably 2 nights in Santorini. We are active, so will be on the move, and our relaxation is seeing the sights and enjoying the local ambience. We normally do not use a pool, for my wife is into the local shopping scene. Therefore, we want to stay in Fira with its central location. We are not into dancing and late nights with the youngsters, but we do like to enjoy our cocktails (wine beer, etc) in the local bars and restaurants wherever we go. Noise normally doesn't bother us while sleeping, for we have a "noise machine" we carry on our travels.
With that being said, we will probably be having dinner and cocktails watching the sun go down in a restaurant on the caldera, so do we really need to get a room with a caldera view? Are there any nice hotels without a view in Fira so we can save our money and stay in a nicer hotel somewhere else.
This post is probably heresy, but I ask anyway. Regardless, I will possibly still book Scirocco Apartments or Enigma Apartments.
Thanks in advance for your response.

With ferries and flights sometimes unpredictable, I recommend you spend at least your last night in Athens to be assured catching your flight out of Greece.
In 1990, I took an overnight ferry from Paros to Rhodes. Not sure what the overnight ferries are like today. Our 1st class cabin had two single beds and a shower stall (I think). There was a 1st class dining room and we saw only one other couple in it. Everyone else was back-packing on the upper deck in 2nd class. At that time, the 1st class cabin was very inexpensive. Not sure what the dollar exchange would have done with that today.

Mahya, you can start your own thread. It works better anyway, when you state something in the headline like
September Paris=Greece trip: should I use a package?
IMHO, I think u should because you seem to want complete information for your trip, which a package tour can provide.

Hi, We will be in Greece for a total of 2 weeks, so 6 days in between Athens and Mykonos. I am told by a dear friend that the Hermes hotel on Mykonos is wonderful.
Thanks for the feedback.
