I'm flying to France in November, to Rennes, in Brittany. I am trying to figure out the best way to get there. I can fly into Charles de Gaulle and then transfer planes to Rennes, or, I can travel into Paris and then take the TGV.

My questions are:
How easy, or hard are the TGV trains to navigate?

Do I have flexablilty about the train I take. Do they leave often.

Do I have to make a reservation before I leave?

What have other people done.

There are plenty of trains to Rennes.

You should be able to get an express...as I recall it was about
1 1/2 hours. Unless you're travelling on a holiday or at peak hours, I don't think you need a reservation.

Navigating the trains is easy. Do a search here for "sncf" or "train" or "train and Rennes", using the France tab. You'll find lots of information already available.

There are only 4 trains a day from the TGV station at the airport to Rennes and it takes 2h50 mins. Otherwise you would have to xfer into paris. It would take about 50 minutes in a Taxi to get to Gare Monparnasse unless traffic is bad then I would add an extra 30 to 45 mins. The train ride is 2 hours and there are 20 trains a day.

If you are unfamiliar with riding trains in France I would be inclined to fly. You are already at the airport anyway so you are just changing flights. It would be much faster that way and the airline will handle your luggage so you dont have to deal with it until you get to Rennes. It sounds like a lot of extra time and work to take the TGV.

I liked the train between Rennes and Paris (though I did not take it to CDG. I found it easy to navigate and more memorable then another plane ride.

What a great idea to go to Britanny!!!I love that area....I know very well Rennes...you will not regret it, I hope!
Concerning your travel, if you have really a lot of luggage, maybe it is better to go by plane..But if you can carry on your luggage, take the TGV...and if you want an advice, please book in advance your ticket...if you don't do it, you risk to have no more places or to spend a lot of time at the desk to obtain a ticket...It is really easy to reserve your train on www.sncf.fr..!!!Have a great stay!

Taking the train isn't difficult at all, even if you have to deal with luggage. The TGV cars are comfortable, and the trip to Rennes is long enough for you to relax on the way. I'd be inclined to buy tickets in advance (you have to buy a seat reservation also) for a train leaving at least 2 hours after you're scheduled to arrive at CDG.
