Having read Sam Garforth's travel account:

I find some of the events horrific, although they could be inaccurate, or paranoid. I would be interested to hear what the readers of Fodors believe.
I would also be interested to know of any websites, other than the above, where there are travel stories/accounts.

I read this a few weeks back. At first it's a bit disturbing, but as it goes on (and on) it becomes hillarious. This guy is ridiculously paranoid. A real nut case.

I read it too when last noted...talk about a bummer of a travel companion! (Careful, everyone on line today seems to know each other and are just waiting for you to fall asleep....)
I think he is justified at first, but then he just gets more and more paranoid.
I think the guy must have been on something. Travel-stories offer some tales.
I think the guy is using some of that acerbic British wit. Americans rarely understand it.
I read it (and it does go on and on). It is compelling, but a little too wierd to be completely true. Paranoia may play a role, or the author has discovered the largest organized crime sydicate in the known univese (the backpacker mafia??). If I recall they abandoned their luggage just on the fear that they may be robbed and, similarly, jumped out of moving train for the same reason (and one sustained a concussion). I thought that sounded a little counterproductive.
